CAPTE-VCS
UH-60M Cockpit Academic Procedural Tool – Enhanced Visual and Control System (CAPT-EVCS) at a Glance
Introduction: The UH-60M CAPT-EVCS is a Directorate of Simulations (DoS) accredited device that is both a prescriptive (Rx) individual & crew trainer and a collective multi-ship, multi- crew trainer providing a high level of physical and visual fidelity to accomplish cost effective training for Army aviation.
Procurement: $2.7M to $4.0M (depending on build options)
Installation Cost: $35K (CONUS)
Footprint: 10-3’L x 12-3’W x 9’H (dome visual option)
Temperature & Humidity Requirements: 64°F to 85°F & 40% to 60% humidity
Power: 2x 20 amp/ single phase/120 volt
Spares Package: $289K
3-Year Warranty w/Initial Purchase: $255K
Annual Sustainment After Warranty: $84K (parts, software, FSR support)
Highlights and Advantages:
- Power requirement is standard U.S. electrical socket (120V)
- Small footprint to accommodate existing structures (no MILCON or UMMC)
- All simulator hardware is non-OEM parts, non-competitive with aircraft parts and manufactured by SGB.
- Aircraft Avionics Procedural Software (AAPS) is Army owned and Modular Open System Approach (MOSA) compliant software
- No requirement to go through OEM for updates. AAPS is concurrent w/aircraft
- AAPS MOSA approach integrates Modern Air Combat Environment (MACE) Augmented Reality Mission Observation and Rehearsal (AROMR). Same software being issued to all Army aviation Aircraft Mission Survivability Officers (AMSOs)
- CAPT-EVCS is equipped with motion cueing seats to enable proprioceptive feedback
- Visual system allows for traditional dome visuals to enable integration of HGU-56 helmet or switch to Head Mounted Display (HMD) to allow for unrestricted FOV, fully immersive
- Capable of supporting all modes of flight (D/N/NG/W/H)
- Varjo XR-4 HMD is set-up for Extended Reality (XR). Multi-Functional Displays (MFDs) have the same screen with the HMD (no-blank screens). Cut-away areas to see pilot/co-pilot hands
- Accredited to log flight time in CAFRS now. ARNG can pay RCMs Additional Flight Training Periods (AFTPs)
- Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) in existing configuration (instructor pilot module loaded in CAPT-EVCS at AVCOE). Can expand AI capability
- Costs associated with CAPT-EVCS (procurement, warranty, and sustainment) are 80% cheaper than legacy simulators.
- Device can be Government Owned Government Operated (GOGO) + Contract Logistical Support (CLS) to decrease costs or scaled up to Contract Owned Contract Operated (COCO)
- Operating cost is a fraction of legacy simulators. 1xCAPT-EVCS ~$84K/year at 3,000 hours utilization compared to 1xBAT ~$1.1M/year at 1,920 hours utilization
- CH-47F CAPT-EVCS built, tested, and ready for accreditation!
